Today, finally, I have brought for you the review of the Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaner. If I wanted, I could have given its review a long time back, but I wanted to make this review different. It has been almost more than a year that I have been testing this vacuum cleaner and the detailed review that I will be giving to you today. I will tell you where this robot vacuum cleaner fails and who should not buy this vacuum cleaner.
Inside the box
Inside the box, you get 2 microfiber mopping pads, 2 side brushes, 1 2-in-1 mopping cum dust-collecting plastic box, one dust collecting plastic box, a charging dock, a power adaptor, 1 mob pad holder, a user manual guide and a warranty card.
This robot vacuum cleaner comes with a charging dock. You need to plug this dock into any socket near the floor. After that connect this round robot vacuum cleaner to the charging points on the dock and leave it there for 3 to 4 hours for charging.
Meanwhile, download the Mi Home application on your phone. After this, you need to pair your phone with this robot through this Mi app. When you will give cleaning instructions to this Mi robot, for the first time, it will make a map of your house or office through laser navigation.
Wherever there is any furniture or any other object, there, this robot will form a virtual wall and it will clean only those areas which are open and are shown on its map. You need to keep the doors of all the rooms open so that it is able to make a map of the entire area in your house or office.
You will be able to see that entire map on the screen of your phone, and, the next time, when you employ this vacuum cleaner for a cleaning job, it will clean your entire house or office on the basis of this map. If you want you can even get one or two rooms cleaned.
On your directives, this robot vacuum cleaner also cleans your house partially by dividing it into zones. Along with this robot vacuum cleaner, you get 2 transparent plastic boxes, one is meant for dry garbage whereas, the other is a 2-in-1 box, that supports sweeping along with mopping.
If you want to get only the sweeping work done, then this dry plastic box needs to be fitted over here, whereas, for mopping cum sweeping you need to fit this dual compartment box. Through this, you can get sweeping and mopping, both, simultaneously done by this robot.
If garbage is more than the capacity of its compartment, then, this robot will prompt you to empty the box. After disposing of the garbage you need to fit that box back into the robot cleaner so that space is created for the remaining garbage. In normal circumstances, this box is sufficient for a two or three-bedroom apartment.
You can see for yourself that this dust box can hold this much garbage in one go. But remember that if this box gets filled to the brim, the garbage will spill, so, dispose of its content when the compartment is a little bit empty. After the sweeping job is done, you need to fit the mopping pads over here and replace the dust compartment with the wet mopping box filled with water. If there is not much garbage in your house, then, instead of the dust box, you can only use the moping box and perform mopping and sweeping simultaneously, which will save you the hassle of changing boxes.
When fully charged, this robot is able to perform cleaning continuously for a period of one-and-a-half or two hours. When its battery is about to get exhausted, it automatically returns to the dock and gets connected with it for charging. If your cleaning area is very big, then it returns to the dock intermittently and after getting charged gets back to work in order to complete its cleaning task from where it was left earlier. You can also schedule this vacuum cleaner for night cleaning. If this robot vacuum cleaner is connected to the Wi-Fi network in your home or office, you can give commands to it for cleaning from anywhere far away too.
Features
This feature comes in handy especially when you are out for many days and you need to get the house cleaned before your arrival. The sensors on this robot work very effectively, because of which it does not go to those areas where it does not get a flat ground. However, it is able to climb a height of 2 cm, like a carpet, where it performs the cleaning. After the entire cleaning is done you need to wash the mopping pad and fit it back after drying. Simultaneously also change the water in the mopping compartment, apart from cleaning the dust compartment. This way, the robot gets ready for the next cleaning job.
Now let's talk about the real performance of this robot vacuum cleaner. Now, I will tell you where this vacuum cleaner is very much useful and where it is not that effective because of its limitations. This robot performs the sweeping job most efficiently on rough and dry surfaces. You get its best performance on wooden flooring, mosaic flooring, and wooden-like flooring. It efficiently picks up the slightest dirt from these areas. This robot comes with two mopping movements, S and Y patterns, which imitate our manual mopping movements. This robot vacuum cleaner faces difficulty while cleaning very smooth glossy surfaces. Even if the glossy surfaces are totally dry, it will perform nicely, but wherever due to moisture, dirt particles are stuck to the floor, it will not be able to scrap it and thereby, skipping the job, it moves ahead. And, this is obvious too, as even if we ourselves clean such floor extra efforts will be required to remove the stuck particles.
Many time we need some metallic scrapper for such stubborn dirt, so expecting this level of cleanliness from a vacuum cleaner is unjustified. And if there is a lot of furniture and other objects scattered all over the floor, then too, this cleaner will not be very useful to you! Obviously, it cannot displace these things here and there and do the cleaning. In a very cluttered space, the cleaning area will be confined to limited space and the rest will remain dirty.
You get good satisfactory cleaning only in those rooms where there is more clutter-free open space. It even goes beneath furniture, where there is a space to enter, and, after performing the cleaning it comes out on its own. In my studio, where, there is a wooden-like flooring, there, this robot performs cleaning very efficiently. The problem arises in the living room and kitchen area where we have got fitted Italian marble-look glossy tiles. While mopping glossy shiny surfaces, its wheels start slippering and then it faces difficulty in moving ahead. If much sauce spills on any shiny floor, it will not be able to clean it as its mopping pads do not have much adsorption capacity and it starts slippering in that sauce and is unable to move ahead.
If there is only a teaspoon of sauce then it will clean it easily. Another problem that I have observed is that some rubbish gets stuck in its sweeping brush and even after cleaning the area, it leaves that behind and moves ahead. This is also the reason why you should clean its lower surface very minutely after it performs the cleaning job. Though this robot vacuum cleaner picks up hairs, too, long hairs get rolled up in the roller and remain over there.
Thereafter, it becomes very difficult to remove the hairs from there. Some garbage also gets stuck to these hairs and when after performing the cleaning job it returns to its dock, it gets scattered here and there. I would conclude by saying that this robot vacuum cleaner is a very useful device that works pretty efficiently in dry open areas. If you go on frequent tours or are a bachelor, then, this is a must-buy product for you. But if you have a much-cluttered space which requires cleaning by removing each and every object, then this will not prove much helpful to you.
